Fort de sa nomination comme DG de l'année (et par le fait même, la jalousie immature et déplacée du DG de Nashville), le DG Phil Bourret n'a pas chômé dans les derniers jours.
Vincent Trochek et Johnny Gaudreau ont été signés comme UFA à grand coup de dollars, mais ces signatures confirment que l'élimination en 7 matchs lors de la 2è ronde contre les surprenants Rangers ont laissé la direction des Leafs sur leur appétit.
Quelques offres à d'autres UFA sont toujours en suspens, mais on pense que Gaudreau-Trochek-Tarasenko-Tuch-Nyquist et peut-être le jeune Texier peuvent former un excellent top 6. À ça s'ajouteront Brodin-Spurgeon-Scandella-Shattenkirk-Holl formant un top 4-5 d'expérience et bien balancé. Le jeune Zac Jones aura beaucoup plus de glace cette année en défense et sera appuyé par la valeure sure, Connor Hellebuyck devant le filet. Le suprenant prospect Kochetkov pourrait être appelé comme second violon dans les buts après son début professionnel du tonnerre en 21-22..
Le court-moyen terme est évidemment la priorité chez les Leafs. La banque d'espoirs en défense est très mince et les jeunes Texier, Denisenko, Bourque et Wiesblatt sont les jeunes qui devront progresser rapidement. Et juste pour le nommer, nous sommes bien curieux de voir Gunnarwolfe Fontaine se développer. Encore une fois, Gunnarwolfe...tu peux pas échouer avec un nom comme ça.
Nous avons bien hâte d'entendre le DG de Nashville nous expliquer qu'il va être ben bon en 2028-2029 ou encore que son prédécesseur lui a laissé un mauvais club, ou encore que le simulateur est contre lui ou encore que les règlements de la ligue ne sont pas bons...en attendant, nous lui disons simplement: "let the big dogs eat".
