En raison des allégations et des propos disgracieux tenu par Bill Peters à l'égard d'Akim Aliu, les Flames n'ont pas eu le choix de lui montrer la porte mercredi matin. Son congédiement est effectif imédiatement et il sera remplacé par Peter Laviolette.
À ce sujet, nous avons recueilli les propos du DG Besnier-Leblond:
"Nous prenons très au sérieux les propos de cette nature et ils n'ont pas lieu d'être. Le racisme n'est pas admis au sein de notre organisation et nous avons pris tout les mesures nécessaires pour y remédier. Notre sport se doit d'être rassembleur alors que ces propos sont plutôt disgracieux, haineux et divise. Bill ne peut maintenant plus prôner les valeurs de l'équipe et se voit aujourd'hui montrer la porte."
De son côté, Peter Laviolette se voit offrir un contrat de 2 ans.
"Pete est un entraineur d'expérience et nous redémarrons à neuf avec lui. Nous éprouvons des moments difficiles, mais je n'ai aucun doute que nous serons nous relever et devenir meilleur."
À noter aussi que le grand ménage ne s'est pas arrêté au grand club, l'entraineur du Heat s'est aussi vu montrer la porte et Sheldon Keefe prendra le poste.
