C'est la 1ère question qui a été posée au DG Bourret lors de son point de presse du bilan de saison 19-20.
Qui sont réellement les Leafs? C'est la grande réponse que le DG devra trouver durant la saison morte: Est-ce l'équipe qui est passée à 2 victoires de la Coupe en 2019, l'équipe qui a amassé 32 points en 1ère moitié de saison cette année ou l'équipe qui a amassé 49 points en 2ème moitié? La dernière réponse est la plus probable et c'est surement sur cette prémisse que Bourret va baser ses décisions...
Après une grosse saison 2019, on pensait qu'ajouter Stastny, Bailey et DeHaan serait gage de succès, mais le lendemain de veille a été dur pour les Leafs qui n'ont trouvé leur air d'aller qu'en janvier 2020. Malkin devait être la locomotive offensive du club mais sa maigre récolte de 45pts est pitoyable. Une séquence de 3 minables points en 25 matchs a tué le momentum du club et on s'en ai jamais remis à Toronto. Le grand Eugène devar en faire plus...beaucoup plus.
Le DG ne pouvait rester immobile avec le deadline qui approchait alors que les vétérans Brassard, Greene, Bailey et DeHaan sont partis pour récupérer quelques jeunes joueurs, plusieurs picks et quelques prospects. C'est bizzarement à ce moment que le club s'est mis à gagner pour flirter avec une place en séries à la fin février, pouir finalement terminer trop à court. La 1ère moitié de saison avait déjà fait trop mal.
Beaucoup de questions à se poser pour Bourret cet été avec Malkin, Kessel, Stastny, Letang et Andersen sous contrat. Certains jeunes comme Tierney, Pionk, Mete, Texier et Jost pourront venir aider mais ce ne sera pas suffisant si les vétérans ne mettent pas leurs culottes!
Par comble de malheur...Malkin avait coûté un 1er choix 2020...ce qui fait que TO n'a même pas le bonheur d'espérer une bonne loterie. Ce serait le comble qu'Arizona parte avec un pick dans le top 3!!
Faudra donc se contenter de 3 choix de 2è ronde et 2 de 3è. En ajoutant le 1er de BUF 2021 et un ou 2 prospects intéressants, on porurait être tenté de s'avancer dans le draft de cette année...à suivre.
