Durant l'entre-saison, les Canucks ont fait le pari de miser sur deux joueurs de centre élite en les personnes de Jack EICHEL et Anze KOPITAR, chacun commandant le coquet salaire annuel de 10M. On a brodé autour de ces joueurs en signant pour un an James NEAL et son 78 de SC, et en transigeant pour aller chercher Jonathan MARCHESSAULT. Les additions de Shea WEBER et de Brian DUMOULIN en défense nous mettaient également en confiance quant à la saison à venir.
Sur les plans individuels, EICHEL et KOPITAR livrent sans contredit la marchandise, avec 23 et 19 points respectivement, en 18 matchs. À l'opposé, NEAL et Patrik HORNQVIST sont encore à la recherche d'un premier but et, considérant leur utilisation dans le top 6 et le PP, ce sont des performances inacceptables qui mèneront à une démotion certaine des vétérans pour les prochains matchs. Si on ajoute au tableau les 38 minutes de punition de NEAL en 18 matchs...disons que Vancouver n'en a pas pour son argent avec ce joueur qui se cherche.
Notre gardien #1, Robin LEHNER, se classe au 5e rang pour le GAA et au 9e rang pour le pourcentage d'arrêt parmi les gardiens ayant disputé 10 matchs ou plus. Nous sommes satisfaits de son rendement et, comme nous avons dû lui verser un salaire vastement supérieur à son salaire NHL (!) pour conserver ses services, ça rend la pilule plus facile à avaler.
C'est cependant sur le plan collectif que les Canucks démontrent le plus de positif. L'équipe est présentement en 5e position dans le classement général (rythme de 114 points), ce qui confirme que les mouvements de personnel de l'entre-saison et le développement des joueurs portent fruits. En termes d'unités spéciales, Vancouver se classe au 2e rang pour le PP et au 4e rang pour le PK. Heureusement, parce que l'équipe prend malheureusement encore beaucoup trop de punitions, ce qui sera certainement à travailler dans le futur.
Au final, malgré un certain manque de constance dans les performances, nous sommes satisfaits de la prestation du club dans son ensemble après un quart de saison. En espérant que ça se poursuive de la sorte, et même que les changements ponctuels apportés à la formation améliorent les performances collectives pour les prochains mois.
