On va appeler un pingouin, un pingouin! La saison dernière était à oublier. La mayonnaise n'a jamais levé! Les Pingouins se sont vus exclus des séries éliminatoires et les partisans avaient un violent arrière goût de PhillyChesseSteak moisi dans la bouche!
Il faut le dire, depuis la nomination du DG Amyot en juin 2012, Pittsburgh a participé quatre fois aux playoffs, dont trois fois au cours des quatres dernières campagnes. C'est dire à quel point la concession a été relevé de main de maître et que le plan quinquennal présenté à Mario Lemieux, le président propriétaire, a été respecté à la lettre.
Les belles saisons de 2007 à 2009 sont loin derrière et les fans ont faim de victoire...
Compte tenu des balises imposées par la masse salariale, Pittsburgh se devait de réaliser l'impossible pour garder ses meilleurs éléments et continuer de bâtir pour l'avenir. C'est ainsi que Charlie Coyle et Jared Spurgeon ont été transigés en février dernier pour des choix de repêchage.
''C'est toujours difficile de laisser aller des joueurs repêchés et élevés dans la tradition de l'équipe'' a déclaré le DG Amyot à la fermeture des échanges. Spurgeon, un savant choix de 6e ronde, 156e au total en 2008, avait été obtenu grâce à une échange avec le Wild à la fin de la dernière décennie.
De plus, Ryan Strome fut identifé comme un élément perturbateur dans l'équipe. Il demandait le beurre et l'argent du beurre et voulait de la coutellerie en argent pour beurrer ses toast dans le vestiaire. Lorsqu'il a été pris les culottes à terre avec la sacoche d'une p'tite, qu'il a dérobé dans un débit de boisson (comportement classique chez les Ryan), ce fut la goutte de trop. Heureusement que Henrik Le King Lundqvist à arranger les choses avec brio. Quand l'état major a convoqué Strome dans le bureau pour entendre sa version des faits, il à dit: '' Comm'on st'ais juste une plotte à puck '' . Erreur... Mme Asselin, souvent appelé à tort Mme Lemieux, lui a signifié que ses jours étaient comptés.
Au final, Strome a plié baggage pour la ville des vents en compagnie de Chad Krys contre l'espoir Erik Brannstrom. Au passage, les Pingouins ont rappatrié le centre danois Frans Nielsen.
À ce sujet, sachez que ce Nielsen, provient de la municipalié de Herning; le même bled que Oliver Bjorkstrand. Frans en est également à son deuxième passage avec les Pingouins. Il a d'ailleurs connu des saisons de 67 et 75 pts entre 2013 et 2015. Il a instauré, dans la cuisine de l'équipe, des déjeuners smørrebrød , une spécialité de tartine danoise bien beurré … C'est Ryan qui doit se mordre les lèvres en lisant ce compte rendu. Quoi qu'il en soit, Bjorkstrand joue du hockey inspiré grâce à son compatriote.
Une séquence de 9 matchs avec au moins un point en octobre à maintenu l'équipe a flot.
La soirée magique d'Artemi Panarin, du 23 octobre dernier, restera gravé dans les mémoires longtemps. Une performance de 2 buts, 5 aides pour le franc tireur de Pittsburgh. Il paraît que Darryl Sittler aurait communiqué avec Le Magnifique avant la fin de la première période pour lui dire que son record était solidement menacé! !! Un journal a potins de la Miami mentionnait dernièrement que la nuque du cerbère Linus Ullmark n'a pas fini de peler dû à la brulure au troisième degré engendré par la lumière des buts. Panarin lui aurait d'ailleurs envoyer un certificat-cadeau d'épiderma pour Noël.
2e pour les victoires et 2e pour les buts marqués; de belles statistiques. Le PP et le PK reste à améliorer.
L'objectif est toujours de rester devant les Flyers et de se qualifier pour les séries.
Parlant de cette organisation de vidange, la défaite en prolongation du 30 octobre dernier est fraîche en mémoire et le 22 janvier est encerclé en rouge écarlate sur le calendrier.
