Au quart de la saison, le Kraken de Seattle se retrouve à un match au-dessus de la barre des .500, n’alignant que rarement de séries de victoires ou de défaites. Considérant la constitution de l’équipe, c’est sensiblement ce à quoi on pouvait s’attendre. Une attaque moyenne, une défensive moyenne, un club physique et indiscipliné…bref, le Kraken confirme qu’il arrive que le tout ne soit que la somme des parties, sans plus.
Ce qui est cependant surprenant, c’est que ce ne sont pas les joueurs qu’on attendait qui se sont levés. Alors que notre meilleur joueur et capitaine Gabriel LANDESKOG en arrache avec 6 points en 19 matchs, c’est la recrue Yegor SHARANGOVICH qui est le meilleur pointeur de l’équipe avec 15 points. Alors que les meneurs défensifs croupissent dans les négatifs, Rasmus ANDERSSON trône au sommet de l’équipe à +9.
Les deux gardiens du club font quant à eux de leur mieux, mais avec des outils limités. Ce qui fait en sorte qu’on flirte avec le .900 de pourcentage d’arrêt et qu’on ne blanchit jamais l’adversaire.
La direction croit malgré tout offrir du hockey excitant aux partisans de Seattle, tout en saluant secrètement leur bonne étoile d’évoluer dans un marché plus ou moins connaisseur.
Il faut cependant se rendre à l’évidence : jouer pour .500 ne mènera Seattle nulle part et c’est sans s’en cacher, au contraire, que la direction de l’équipe a mis sur le marché plusieurs joueurs en cours de saison, histoire de bien garnir sa banque d’espoirs et de choix au repêchage. Il s’agit là de la meilleure façon d’assurer la pérennité du club.
La direction du club a été claire. TOUT ce qui a 26 ans et plus peut bouger. Les grands penseurs du Kraken ne lésine sur aucun moyen pour trouver des façons d’orchestrer des transactions qui seront viables et rentables pour les partenaires impliqués, que ce soit en faisant de la rétention ou en absorbant des contrats indésirables par exemple.
